Well, let me start by saying I didn’t read it, I listened to it. With my busy schedule and always traveling, I find it better for me to listen to a book. I can blast through a good book in a single road trip. My secret? I never listen to audio books on standard speed I always 1.5x or 2x the speed. Trust me it works.
I came across Ryan Blair through a local legend Gerard Adams. Gerard Adams is a local Newark NJ hero and one of the co-founders of Elite Daily. Gerard recently sold Elite Daily for $50 million to Daily Mail. Not a bad payday Gerard. Thanks for the intro.
Ryan Blair got my attention when I heard he is hitting monthly targets that I am aiming for. With a little youtube research, a was hooked. Amazingly Ryan Blair and I are not too different.
Ryan was a young kid in a destructive path and I so can relate. It’s difficult to find an author or successful person that you can relate to. Many of them keep their skeletons in the closet until someone finds them.
Not Blair, he put all his cards on the table. From Gang Member to multi-millionaire entrepreneur. Isn’t that a mouth full?
Amazingly I can still relate. I was not in a gang. Well, kind off. When I was 17 – 22 years old, I was a street racer. No, not like fast and furious. But the real street racing. Race for money, race for cars someone pulls out a gun because they lost. You know the real street racing. I am just glad that at that time a was in the wrong crowd for a good reason.
And yes, street racing lead me to getting arrested. Am I proud? No. But I can relate.
The one thing that makes us completely different is that he was able to find a mentor at his early 20s. I, on the other hand, thought I had mentors when I was working for other companies. Stupid me I confused bosses with mentors. Looking back no wonder I would get upset when I was taken for granted. Moreover, I am glad that my life took that path. Because of that, I was able to work in 12 different industries in only 18 years.
Your focus should only be on giving value.
Ryan’s book ” Rock Bottom To Rock Star” is a great read with many and I mean many important lessons. He shares true substance that many entrepreneurs will find value in their journey to entrepreneurship. Ryan expresses the power of staying focused on the big picture even when your world is out of control. I still don’t know how you did it, Ryan? Mother was in a coma, son just diagnosed with autism, company going out of control and this book was being released.
To all my fellow entrepreneurs if you decide to read this book you will gain much value from it. To all the others that decide not to read or hear “Rock Bottom To Rock Star”, I still want to share with you one important lesson. Value. Give as much value as possible. Give value with a kind heart. Your focus should only be on giving value. Because the faster you give true value, the soon the money and the mansions start rolling in.
